Why You Should Enter Our Screenwriting Contest
On the surface, we all enter screenwriting competitions for the same reasons. We want to jumpstart a career as a screenwriter. We want the cash prizes and the industry exposure, and we want the chance to prove ourselves as one of the best writers out there. These are all great reasons, obviously, and winning a contest can be a huge boost for any screenwriter.
Deep down, though, screenplay contests also serve another purpose: They motivate us to sit down and write. If we pay to enter, we'll have to actually write at some point... Or so we think.
But with most screenwriting contests, there's no real motivation. There aren't any STAKES, and there's nothing truly driving us to write. Sure, you paid the entry fee - - but you've got months to work on your script, and if worse comes to worse, you can just submit the same script you sent in last year. Between work and kids and holidays, there never seems to be enough time to really dedicate to screenwriting, and because of that, our scripts can suffer. Dusty. Alone and unloved.
The Script-a-thon changes that.
Sure, we offer cash prizes, agent meetings and industry exposure in four different genre categories, but we also provide something far more important than that: A DEADLINE.
With our contest, there's one month that's completely devoted to writing. One month where you can say, guilt-free, "I'm sorry, I can't go out tonight. It's Script-a-thon month." Four weeks where you can pour yourself into your script, motivated by the ticking clock, completely immersed in the world you've created. No other screenwriting contest provides that motivation, support and encouragement, but the Script-a-thon does.
Throughout the month of July, we host a weekly mini-contest to keep you motivated and on track as you write. Contests like "Best Logline," "Best Opening Page," and "Best Kiss" push our writers to succeed, and every mini-contest winner receives a prize!
That's four additional chances to win!
So what are you waiting for? Why bother checking out any other screenwriting contests or competitions - - we've got all that any writer needs right here. No more excuses! This July, it's time to start writing.
